Residents are being asked their views on a proposal to add Carisbrooke to the name of Newport Parish Council.
The Isle of Wight Council has received a request from Newport Parish Council to change its name to Newport and Carisbrooke Parish Council.
If implemented, the new title would not affect any other aspect of the running of Newport Parish Council – and all existing wards and elected members would remain as they are.
Before the Isle of Wight Council can make the change, it would like to receive residents’ opinions – whether they support the new name or not.
The council has launched a 2-week consultation starting today (Monday 23rd July) and closing on Monday 6th August.
Residents can comment on the proposed change in the following ways:
- Via the Isle of Wight Council website at www.iwight.com/ParishCouncilConsultation
- In writing to: Electoral Services, Isle of Wight Council, County Hall, Newport, Isle of Wight PO30 1UD
Newport Parish Council was formed in 2008 and currently has 14 elected members, taking in the Island’s county town and neighbouring Carisbrooke.
