ISLANDERS DOMINATE BOURNEMOUTH IN LADIES NATIONAL TRIPLES

The trio of Anne Bernard, Gay Allen and Pauline Proud took on Bournemouth Indoor Bowls Club’s J. Hudson, S. Dadson and J. Halliwell at Five Rivers in the area final of this season’s Ladies National Triples last week.

The Bournemouth side got off to the best start and had taken a 7 shot advantage after the first third of the match. The Islanders settled in to the game and from that point onwards dominated the contest.

With 4 ends left to play they had reduced the deficit to only 1 shot. Scoring on each of the remaining ends they went on to record an excellent 15 shots to 10 victory.

On 22nd March they will play in the last 16 of the National Championships at Nottingham Indoor Bowls Club against England international skip Wendy King’s trio from Swale Indoor Bowls Club in Kent.

The club recorded a substantial 152 shots to 78 win when they took on Shanklin Bowling Club in a home friendly match. Ian Hampshire, Sandra Aldridge, Steff Ball and John Hutchinson led the way with a 29 shots to 9 win followed closely by Val Croucher, Tony Harris, Ted West and Mark Morris who came home 30 shots to 12 ahead.

There was a 27 shots to 11 win for Auriol Ash, Norman Cooper, Shirley Searle and Roy Jemson, with Angela West, Jane Swinfield, Pat Hartigan and Malcolm Coston succeeding by 27 shots to 12.  Margaret Carrett, Leen Hampshire, Alan Davis and John Carrett finished in front by 24 shots to 14. Only losers were Pam Grundy, Barbara Moye, Bob Westhead and Andy Eyres who went down by 20 shots to 15.
