Workshops are taking take place across the Island over the next 2 weeks to ask residents what the Isle of Wight should look like in the future as a place to live, work and visit.
The 5 events build on the ‘Wight We Want’ survey that took place earlier in the year looking at the key issues affecting people’s quality of life on the Island including skills, housing and environment. Headline results from that survey, and opinions from each local area, will be discussed further in the workshops and residents’ views collected.
The workshops and survey data will help to shape the emerging regeneration strategy for the Isle of Wight that is due to be published in Spring 2018.
Regeneration issues in and around Newport will be the subject of another specific set of workshops to be held in January 2018.
Councillor Wayne Whittle, Cabinet member for regeneration and business development has said:
“We need to hear more from Islanders about what they feel needs to be done to improve the quality of life now and for future generations, so these workshops are important events for people to make their feelings known about our Island regeneration.
“We have ambitious plans for the Island as a whole – to create a sustainable economy and an inspiring place in which to grow up, live, work and visit. But in order to shape our vision to make a real difference to people’s lives in the way that they need, we must understand what those needs are. Then, together as a community, we can identify the issues and opportunities in our local areas.”
