Island Roads have been busy responding to dangerous branches, fallen trees and flooding across the Isle of Wight.
Operatives responded to a total of 15 incidents relating to fallen trees and dangerous branches.
Trees were removed at
• Brading Road, Ryde
• West Lane, Brading
• Long Lane, Newport
• Colemans Lane, Porchfield
• Newport Road, Apse Heath
• Pondwell Hill, Ryde
• Marina Avenue, Ryde
• Calthorpe Road, Ryde
• Appuldurcombe Road/Redhill Lane, Wroxall
• Sandown Road, Bembridge
• Ampthill Road Ryde
• Moons Hill Totland
• Pan Lane Newport
• Eddington Road Seaview
A tree at Macketts Lane was removed by the farmer.
Island Roads also responded to a number of flooding incidents. Water was removed by tanker at Bannock Road, Whitwell; Westwood Road, Ryde and Newport Road, Cowes. Warning signs were erected at Warlands Lane, Shalfleet; Sandy Lane, Newport and Forest Road, Newport.
An emergency sandbag delivery was made to Gatcombe Village Road and Harding Shute was closed due to flooding on the outskirts of Ryde.
As of this morning (Monday) 2 roads remain closed – Harding Shute for flooding and Middle Road, Calbourne for tree works.
Osborne Steps in Shanklin – linking Osborne Road down to the Esplanade – have also been closed due to a private wall collapse.
Credit where it is due. The guys doing the work in awful weather do well.
It is the poor management, the prioritisation of roads to be ‘done’ and the cheap tarmac, the policy of just adding huge amounts of such, rather than curing the underlying road problems, that ‘is’ an issue, not those who just do as they are told to do.
Also it’s not just island roads doing the work they have contractors from other companies do most of it and they get no recognition
