Isle of Wight ceramic artist Andrew Dowden will be exhibiting at Quarr Abbey Art Gallery, with Wootton-based artist Jeanne Mills-Holland next month. This will be their sixth exhibition together at Quarr Abbey.
A carpenter for 20 years, Andrew was inspired to take up ceramics whilst watching a bowl being thrown on a wheel during research for a book on Isle of Wight pottery. Ideas for his distinctive handmade and hand-carved ceramic forms and wall panels, are derived from the countryside; tracks made by man, machine and nature leaving their imprint on the earth. Architecture, machinery and archaeology also inspire and add further interest to designs.
Jeanne began her working life as an Engineering Design Draughtswoman before becoming an art teacher. She now works in oils, acrylics, clay and photography. Her paintings are mainly influenced by her love of sailing and the sea.
The free exhibition is being held between Thursday 26th-Tuesday 31st May at Quarr Abbey, Fishbourne and will be open daily from 10:00 to 17:00. Work is available to purchase.
