INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED AFTER WOMAN MUGGED IN RYDE

policelightsstockUPDATED: Detectives are tonight (Saturday) investigating the mugging of a female in Ryde.

Several Police units descended on the Nelson Street and Castle Street area of the town at just before 20:25 after a woman was allegedly assaulted and robbed as she walked towards the Esplanade from her home in Nelson Street.

Although the full details are currently unknown, it is known that the victim received a minor hand injury when her red handbag was snatched.

The wanted male suspect is said to be around 5ft 7″ tall, dressed in black with a red scarf over his face.

Detectives from Newport CID remain in the area tonight alongside uniformed officers, who spent some time searching the surrounding area.

UPDATE MONDAY – A 19-year-old teenager and a 34-year-old man – both from Ryde – have been arrested, questioned and bailed in connection with the incident.

It has been confirmed by Police that a 53-year-old woman had her handbag snatched at the junction of Nelson Street and Castle Street.

The 19-year-old male has been bailed until 16th October, whilst the 34-year-old has been bailed until 11th November.
