The Island’s MP has this evening (Friday) issued a statement about a recent meeting with a resident in Seaview, which has attracted the attention of the national newspapers for breaching lockdown guidance.
It is said that Mr Seely attended a ‘gathering’ of people in Seaview but the MP says it was by mistake.
He has admitted that he called it wrong and should have left straight away.
In a statement, Bob has said:
“As the Island’s MP, I have had a lot of dialogue with local residents over recent weeks. The vast majority of these have been over the phone or the internet. A handful of these – when requested – have been in person, at a two-metre distance and outside. I was in Seaview two weeks ago undertaking constituency work. Whilst there, I agreed to visit someone who wanted to discuss the app. He is a journalist and an acquaintance. When I arrived, I saw another couple of people there, which I was not expecting. I thought about leaving, but felt that was perhaps over-reacting.
“I apologise because, on balance, I called this wrong. It would have better to have spoken to this person without any others nearby.“At a sensible distance, we talked in the garden. The others left 15 minutes later, and I stayed to talk with this person for a further 20 mins or so. I then left. I didn’t go inside any building; nor did I have a drink. As it was after normal working hours, my girlfriend was with me.“In the interests of being transparent, I am happy to confirm that, as the Island’s MP, I have had a very small number of other such face-to-face conversations – again at a social distance – over recent weeks with other people on the Isle of Wight (such as council, media and public health representatives) when requested. I will continue to make myself available in person where it is considered safe and responsible to do so.“I am aware that this had been a stressful and trying time for many people. I am glad that restrictions have been cautiously eased and we are moving on to a new form of normal. Sorry that I got this one wrong.”

Gosh, Mr Seely actually does something for a change, and still cocks it up!!
Corbyn broke the rules multiple times. Where’s the outrage towards Steptoe??
Er, unlike Dominic Cummings Corbyn no longer runs a political party
Why does he no longer run a political party? hahahahhahahhaaha 🙂
It’s ironic that he drove for a face to face with an ‘acquaintance’ with girlfriend in tow to talk about a phone app. Could of pressed a button instead. Damn those sausages must have been good!!!
You certainly did get it wrong, so go, resign, leave, typical of the one rule for them and one rule for us attitude. Bob Seely you are a disgrace. Oh OK because it was outside of normal working hours, it’s ok to do that, hope you don’t claim expenses for that then, or maybe you just drove there to test your eyesight. Quite frankly your attitude is so bad it’s time to go Bob. Are there any photo’s of this “meeting” if so please send them to the Island Echo.
why don’t you go mark – I didn’t notice you on the ballot paper when I voted last time.
The Guardian story about BBQ Bob quotes his holiday home chums saying they quite enjoyed testing their eyesight on the island. Haha what jolly jape fun taking the p*** out of lockdown rules. His host also says he enjoyed two sausages at the family event, contrary to what ‘Half a sausage’ Seely claims.
Reminds me of Animal Farm (BBQ Bob must have read it as he is so interested in Russia) – ‘all people are equal, but some more equal than others’ and leaders changing ‘four legs good, two legs bad’ to ‘four legs good, two legs better’ to suit their own political propaganda.
Appears Seldom Seen Bob has a girlfriend but where does she live? Still wondering where BBQ Bob lives too – his website and bio seems unclear. Perhaps he is a second-home carpetbagger too. He should do the honourable thing and resign, but doubt he will not as he is too busy slinking up the greasy political pole to do what an honest politician would do. He Doesn’t have to worry – just do a Cummings and ignore the people – as elderly voters on the island will still vote Tory. But remember, Covid 19 targets this age group.
Its OK Bob you are one of the chosen ones and the rules do not apply to you.
Stay elite! Rules are for plebs.
The statements concerning the “Spectator/Brexit/Tory party BBQ” (as seen in the dailies) are designed for damage limitation. In fact it was not – as implied – a case of an MP turning up and finding “another couple” there. It appears the guest list ran into double figures.
Any photos, please send them to the echo, I’m sure that would like to see them…..
Hopefully the Police will be investigating and issuing fines to all in attendance.
I have quietly watched this unfold over many years and have seen BS rise from councillor to MP and fully understood how he needs to use his influence with defence committees and people such as Oliver Tobias to further his career. (Bob) as the local media ( island echo) like to call him, and of course his IOW councillor and media parasite Dave Stewart, will try to play this down (check out his BS comments about Dominic Cummings) but the truth is simple, you are a liar, hypocrite and will sit on the fence to safe your neck. One day hopefully, you and DS will realise that real people have died and suffered unnecessarily and you both should, and can have, done much much more to protect them rather your own necks. Remember this when you go home to your family and friends, who are loyal to you but scared and so desperately following the government guidance. Show some leadership and protect those most vulnerable, for they need you far more than you need the press to further! your career. Now is the time for you both to show who you really are are, don’t fail, we are watching and ready to vote when the time comes.
Nice sentiments but wasted on Seely. Rules are for plebs.
His coffins getting heavier all those nails
Again they take the p… out of us all, and what do you sheep do.? That’s right nothing! There’s an old saying, you reap what you sow, and in your case ,you get nothing, because you did nothing. These scum bags will do exactly as they want, be you will do exactly what they say!
Good on ya bob.people in seaview can do what they like any way well.done for not being sheep we could learn a lesson from the posh
Mr Seely ignored my emails many times. I’m glad I didn’t vote for him. Useless for the island.
Would he had said anything if this had not become public knowledge, of course not. He broke the rules and did not report it, he should go now! You can see why he wants to reduce the 2 meter rule!
Come on Bob do the things you should do and go….. you’ve had your chance and stuffed it right up.

Stitched up like a kipper
Is Freddie Gray a constituent, is he resident here ?, self confessed DFL ( down from London), if so was he also was breaking lockdown rules ???
What can i add,
He broke the rules by staying, he should have left straight away, he could have used the telephone, he could have done loads of things.
How many other times has he broken the rules??
The problem is this, the people supposedly in charge have broken the rules they set, which has led to distrust and a lot of people doing exactly the same……..
and yet we the public are being asked yet again to obey rules that the so called people in charge do not adhere to.
Sausage Bob needs to go, maybe he didn’t see the other 15 or so people in the garden near the BBQ. But I guess he may of driven there to test his eyesight and obviously didn’t see them.
It now appears that the Barbeque attended by ” Half Sausage” Seely was at a Journalists Holiday Home, the journalist stated she escaped to the Island for Peace and tranquility , So nobody should have been there, The Tories have come up with some cracking excuses for breaking the Lock down Laws.
Do we know which journalist? Be nice to know.
‘I got it wrong’ does not make it right!
Its Bull**** that it was a work meeting it’s obvious it was a social gathering. Do as I say not as I do springs to mind. Surely a fine should be issued.

If it is reported they must investigate.
Don’t let them Gaslight you.
Demand Justice
Always one rule for them and another for us…..I can already smell the B.S !!!
News item states the Hoilday Home in Seaview is owned by a Journalist for the Spectator . Could it be Mary Wakefield Spectator Journalist ( Wife of Dominic Cummings ) ??
If it is the wife of Dominic Cummings we need to let the main press, BBC, Sky etc, know, which news item are you referring to, please place a link here.
An article in the Guardian Newspaper but is rather confusing as to who the Journalist is who owns the Holiday Home other links suggested Mary Wakefield as she is the Commissioning Editor of the Spectator that sounds like speculation now as the story unfolds .
Bob Seely is supposed to be a person of responsibility. He has made a grave mistake and has given a reason for his visit to Seaview which does not mitigate the offence. It shows a gross lack of judgement at best or total contempt for his elderly and vulnerable constituents at worse. Resignation? Only if he has a conscience
