VIDEO: HRH THE DUKE OF KENT VISITS EAST COWES FOR BICENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS

HRH Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent visited East Cowes today (Thursday).

His Royal Highness paid a visit to the RNLI Inshore Lifeboat Centre on the banks of the River Medina – his second visit in the past 10 years, as well as opening an exhibition at Osborne House.

The Duke of Kent also unveiled a bicentennial bench for Victoria and Albert beside the Romanov memorial at Jubilee Recreation Ground. It is at the memorial that he was welcomed with a bunch of locally-sourced flowers, presented by 10-year-old Lotte Haig-Thomas.

Island Echo reader Rob Lipscombe was at the bench unveiling off York Avenue and captured the Royal visit on camera..

Bicentennial celebrations marking 200 years since the births of both Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Albert are taking place in East Cowes over the long weekend.

Some Cowes companies and establishments used to keep Queen Victoria’s Birthday as a holiday. I wonder when that last took place ?
