HOVERS SUSPENDED DUE TO ENGINE PROBLEM

UPDATED: Hovertravel have suspended their cross-Solent service this Friday evening following an engine problem mid-Solent.

Passengers on board the 17:30 crossing from Southsea have reported hearing a ‘clonk’ noise before the Captain announced he was having to shut down the starboard engine on the ageing Freedom 90 craft – the only one left in service.

The hovercraft has managed to safely land at the Ryde pad and all passengers have disembarked.

The technical issue has resulted in the suspension of the service but it remains unclear how long this will be for.

Just 3 days ago it was announced that a 1-craft service would operate until the end of February due to ongoing issues with the new Flyer craft. The temporary withdrawal of Solent Flyer and Island Flyer from service has left Hovertravel with just 1 serviceable craft.

UPDATE SATURDAY – A ‘normal’ revised timetable has now been resumed.

Hovertravel apologise for the inconvenience caused.
