mary spender_portrait_19To warm up the evenings as we head towards winter, Ventnor Arts Club has some hot entertainment scheduled with an impressive mix of Island, mainland and even overseas artistes and entertainment.

There is a programme of independent and world cinema during the week, luxurious yoga on Mondays and at weekends a wide range of music, cabaret, talks and other events.

This Saturday 18th, the season begins with Red Magic, a trio fronted by vocalist Traci Reader. Best known as a singer and performer in stage musicals, with Alan Nichols on piano and Pete Holder on bass, she sings a variety of jazz standards, 60s classics and popular numbers from across the decades. Expect a great mix of people and music.

On Saturday 25th October the club welcomes award-winning, Bristol singer songwriter Mary Spender (pictured) who’s had a busy year touring with Comedian Dr Phil Hammond, recording more material and collaboration with band Gypsy Fingers. She’s an extremely gifted songwriter and puts rhythm and energy into her tracks in a style not unlike early KT Tunstall. If you’d like to see an artist very much in the ascendant, don’t miss Mary.

Others on the way at Ventnor Arts Club include the fantastic Eve Ferret on Saturday 1st November who comes all the way from Pimlico to present her zany and unpredictable ‘Fabaret’. The incredible jazz trio Wrath of Sages returns on Friday 7th November with Gary Plumley on sax, Jon Thorne on Bass and Nick Page on guitar playing searing tunes until late. They are followed on 15th November by a very popular show featuring soulful and melodic lounge-friendly songs from Laurie McVay and The Giant Steps – a great show in the NY club style.

World-class singer Barb Jungr makes a stop on her international club circuit on Saturday 22nd November to present a wide repertoire of contemporary songs delivered in her unique and highly acclaimed style. Tickets have been selling fast for a very rare ‘out of city appearance’.

December brings more exciting shows like guitar virtuoso, Claude Bourbon on Saturday 6th December and award winning folksters The Willow Band appearing Saturday 13th December. And for a special Christmas treat the club has recalled the highly acclaimed French retro style jazz, blues and pop band Jane for Tea; coming from Toulouse for three nights of joyous partying 18th, 19th and 20th December.
