The Isle of Wight and surrounding regions could be under a hosepipe ban next Summer due to a lack of rainfall.
South East England only saw half the normal amount of rainfall last Winter and so far Autumn has been fairly dry, leading to fears of a second dry winter. In October, just 1.3 inches of rain fell across the South – that’s less than 40% of the monthly average.
A reservoir which supplies Hampshire and the Isle of Wight is said to be just 43% full, although underground stock levels aren’t as dire.
Ian McAulay, Chief Executive of Southern Water has this week said that restrictions on the use of hosepipes in 2018 is certainly part of the company’s scenario.
“We have had one dry winter. We’re currently in a second dry winter, so we are looking at how do we replenish our stocks.
