This weekend marked a significant milestone in Isle of Wight football history, as the first-ever all girls game took place in the Sunday league.
Hosted at Oakfield C of E Primary School, the match saw Wight Eagles U13 Girls face off against Ventnor U13 Girls in a thrilling contest that showcased the talent and potential of young female footballers on the island.
In a game played with remarkable skill, passion and energy, the score remained level at 2-2 until the final 5 minutes. Ventnor capitalized on a late surge, scoring 2 quick goals to secure a 4-2 victory.
This match not only highlighted the high standard of girls’ football but also served as a powerful argument for establishing a dedicated girls’ league on the Isle of Wight.
