Social care services provided locally on the Island will be the focus of an event being held by Isle of Wight Council’s Adult Social Services.
The Adult Social Services Health and Social Care Market event will be taking place at The Riverside Centre, Newport over the weekend of Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September, between 10:00 and 16:00 on both days.
The event is designed to advice residents about the help and support available through Adult Social Services, voluntary organisations and social care providers.
Cabinet member for adult social care and public health, Councillor Clare Mosdell, said:
“We are keen to promote local services to residents and a range of organisations will be on hand at the event. This will be a great chance to find out more about what help and advice is on offer.
“The council is keen to do what we can to help coordinate the best health and social care for residents so I would strongly encourage the public to attend and find out about options which may help to make their lives easier at that crucial point when they are making decisions about their own care or that of their loved ones.”
There will be short, informative talks on the first day (Saturday 9 September) from healthcare professionals. Carol Tozer, Isle of Wight Council Director of Adult Social Services and Care, will be presenting a talk at 11:00 and 13:30 on: Care Close to Home: a new strategy for adult social care, discussing the council’s vision to help people to maintain or improve their wellbeing and to live as independently as possible.
Laura Rice, the manager at Wightcare, will be sharing information on the services they can provide, at 12:00 and 14:30. Wightcare provides a community alarm and telecare service to enable Island residents to live independently in their own homes and are the only Island based service which installs and maintains equipment, monitors calls 24/7 and provides a mobile responder service.
Lastly, Mark Kelly, from Socialising Buddies will be giving an outline on what help and services they can provide for adults with learning disabilities, at 13:00 and at 15:30. Their aim is to support adults with learning disabilities with to meet new people, develop choice making skills, develop self-esteem and social skills, develop independence skills and visit new places.
Providing a musical interlude at The Riverside Centre will be the Summertime Breeze Jazz Trio, who will be playing on the Saturday.
