Wear a hat – it’s as simple as that! That’s the challenge to Islanders as the Earl Mountbatten Hospice launches its Hats for the Hospice fundraising campaign for 2018.
The annual event, to be held on Friday 23rd February 2018, invites people to pose in their favourite hat and share a photo to the official Earl Mountbatten Facebook and Twitter pages using #hatsforthehospice.
Donations can be made by sending a text message to HATS18 £2 (or your chosen amount) to 70070, or by visiting https://www.justgiving.com/campaigns/charity/emhospice/hatsforthehospice.
On the evening of the event, Ryde Superbowl are holding a Hats for the Hospice bowling night, making a donation for each participant who wears a hat. Schools across the Island are also taking up the challenge, thanks to a hospice partnership with Shift It!, a sustainable transport programme within schools.
Dani Johnson, Community Events Fundraiser, said:
“It’s such a simple idea and so easy to do, that there really is no excuse not to get involved! Borrow a hat, buy a hat, make a hat – just make sure you wear a hat and donate.
“The event started as a one-off fundraiser in memory of my dad, Mike Rawlinson, who was a real hat man himself, loved life and enjoyed wearing many different types and shapes of headwear. Hats for the Hospice has proved very popular and we hope to grow the event in years to come. Watch this space for more ideas!”
