Hampshire Constabulary issued a total of 103 fines across the region between 27th March and 13th April, latest figures from the National Police Chief’s Council reveal.
Members of the public across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight who have refused to comply with the Government’s directions have been slapped with a £60 fine, reduced to £30 if paid within 14 days.
The force sits mid-table when it comes to the rate of fines per 10,000 people, with Hampshire Constabulary serving a population of 1,985,800. According to the official figures, officers in our region match those in Leicestershire, Avon and Somerset and West Yorkshire with a rate of 0.5.
Those living in Lancashire have been hit the hardest with 2.5 fines per 10,000 population – a total of 380 fines have been issued in the area.
It has been confirmed this week that Under 18s cannot be fined.

And how many of those fines would be contrary to the three page College of Policing Guidance that has just been published to clarify to the police what is and isn’t acceptable?
I wonder how many of those fines can be challenged as overreach now?
A citizen gets it wrong and they get a fine.
A police officer gets it wrong and the excuse is “these are challenging times and we’re all learning”.
Under 18s can’t be fined. What a load of balls. In these times EVERYONE is responsible for themselves. If the kids are out and about then the PARENTS have to take responsibility, be warned in the 1st instance, after that, a fine. Simples. Dunno what is wrong with this country. Too soft by half. Parents are legally responsible for their kids up to the age of 18 years of age.
