Raising money for 5 local charities, the Wightlink Ryde Slide attracts hundreds to take the plunge whilst thousands look on and enjoy the spectacle. This year, the Slide will also be donating an entire hour of its ticket sales to IW Pride, which this year hosts UK Pride, taking place in Ryde the day before (21st).
Tickets have practically sold out for the event, which is now in its 4th year.
Councillor Wayne Whittle, who originally brought the slide to the Island, has said:
“Having learnt from previous years, we now have the slide situated just right to get a good amount of speed. We have had such wonderful weather on the Isle of Wight lately, that the idea of sliding down Union Street on a giant waterslide and cooling off is hugely appealing, I will be first in the queue!”
Mainland visitors can take advantage of a special offer that headline sponsors Wightlink are running for a limited time. If booked before the 14th July, visitors will get a foot passenger day return from Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier over the 21st/22nd July, for just £15 per adult.
The Slide’s success is down to the time and effort put in by the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue team and HSS Hire which provides all the safety barriers for the event.
“We wouldn’t be here in our fourth year without our sponsors. Without the likes of Wightlink, Isle of Wight Distillery, Rosemary Vineyard, Goddards Brewery, Solent and many more, the event would not have grown to become what it is today and raise so much money for our charities”.
There is a limited amount of tickets priced at £12 still available and those wishing to purchase should visit www.rydeslide.uk to book a slot before it’s too late.
