FUNDRAISING CONCERT TO HELP KEEP THE BELLS PEALING

On Saturday 29th October, the Phoenix Choir will be in concert at All Saints Church, Freshwater to assist in the raising of funds for the church’s ‘Bell Tower & Floor Appeal’.

All Saints is medieval and is one of the oldest churches on the Isle of Wight. It was listed in the Domesday survey of 1086. Members of the Tennyson family are buried in the churchyard and a bronze statuette of Tennyson is exhibited in the Afton Chapel.

The 13th century tower, with a peal of 6 bells, the heaviest on the Island, and a striking clock, requires restoration as does the floor of the church.

The 50-strong mixed choir will be singing an eclectic selection of easy listening songs from their 2016 programme. There is no admission charge but a retiring collection. The concert commences at 19:30.
