The Phoenix Choir will be performing at All Saints Church in Gurnard on Saturday 21st May in aid of The Friends of Nothwood Cemetery.
The Friends of Northwood Cemetery was established in 2008 as a voluntary group and it became a Registered Charity (no: 1143917) in 2011. Its primary aim is to restore the twin chapels at the entrance to the Cemetery which have been subjected to subsidence and which are in danger of collapse.
Over the past 2 years it has applied for, and been granted, Heritage Lottery Funding of £1.68million to restore the chapels, create a natural burial ground (at the rear of the Cemetery), create a woodland heritage trail and upgrade the toilet facilities and roadways – amongst many other activities.
In return for this funding, the Friends of Northwood Cemetery has pledged to the Heritage Lottery Fund that it will contribute a cash sum of £10,350. It is towards this goal that the concert is being held. So far just over £5,000 (circa 50%) has been raised.
The concert commences at 19:30, admission is free but there will be a retiring collection. Teas/coffee will be available and there will be a raffle.
The 50-strong mixed choir have some new songs in their 2016 wide-ranging repertoire and The Friends hope that you will support this worthy cause.
