After nearly 2 years away due to the global pandemic, Mardi Gras is heading back to the streets of Ryde this Saturday afternoon.
This year there is a new circular route starting at 15:00 and finishing at 16:30 at Simeon Street Recreation Ground.
The parade will not be travelling down the High Street this year, so spectators will spot to watch from along Melville Street or Cross Street.
For the 1st time, there will be a ‘Quiet Zone’ for audience members who wish to enjoy the parade without loud music.
Also new for this year will be ‘Mini Mardi Gras’ for families with younger children, including leaf rubbing, flag making and face painting among other things. This will be taking place in Minghella Square from 11:00 15:00.
From 10:30 until 15:00 in St Thomas’ Rest Garden there will be an Art and Craft Market organised by Monkton Arts, which will also feature a stand with information about the Creative Biosphere project and the chance to make an upcycled carnival costume to raise awareness of Ryde’s endangered pied wagtails.
