The Forestry Commission has applied to the courts to get an illegally parked caravan removed from Firestone Copse.
Notices have been erected advising that the claimant – the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs care of the Forestry Commission – has applied to the Isle of Wight County Court to stop ‘persons unknown entering or remaining on land known as Firestone Copse’.
The unsightly, towable caravan has been parked in the forest car park near Havenstreet since October 2019. It is occupied by at least 1 person with a petrol generator running outside for power. Now, they have been served notice to leave the area.
A Final Prohibitory Injunction has also been applied for to restrain the caravan’s occupiers from entering upon, trespassing upon, living on or in any way occupying the land at Firestone.
Earlier today the Isle of Wight Council paid a visit to the occupiers of the caravan, accompanied by the Police, ahead of next week’s court action.

Cant the council find the person a home ?
He would have to pay rent and rates then
Molly for the same reason as YOU can’t house such. No money, no space, and now due to our unogranic increase in population no spare houses.
If everyone just illegally bought a caravan and were given a home the practise would become widespread.
Try ‘thinking’ pre commenting .
So where will he go ?
Molly to similar to where he came pre illegally living and ruining the peace, quiet and beauty of such a tranquil spot.
Now we have beds for the homeless.
Could always go and pick veg, others seem to live well after coming from half way over Europe to do so, and they are not living illegally, least not many of them.
‘Unorganic increase in population’! What does that mean? You can only have an organic increase in population as people are organic.
Maybe try ‘thinking’ pre-commenting.
Probably working on the Island and doesn’t want to pay campsite fees.
Yes! if the person joined the thousands already waiting for a home, if this person was allowed to jump the que, all those that have been waiting for years would need too do, is to get a caravan….problem solved…
Same as every migrant or foreigners that cam here to suck our system dry..english people last again!!!!!!!
That’s my favourite overnight stop to photograph birds at dawn. There’s always someone who ruins things.
Just hook a truck up to the caravan and tow it to the tip
Right answer.
Leave the poor person alone. Trying to find a way of being able to live in todays mess of a country. He isn’t harming anyone he isn’t abusing anyone he isn’t affecting our day to day lives. Leave him alone. Do you want another person on the streets ? Thought we are trying to bring that number down
But what is happening to their waste??
What when a mate join him, then his mate, then a women, then children. Next thing is a travellers camp site, with stained matteresses, old fridges, yapping dogs, dope grown in a hidden clearing in the woods, cars left whilst people enjoy the area, robbed, syphoned of fuel, homes near by broken into, wild drug parties in summer evenings. THINK of the IMPLICATIONS not this ‘innocent’ decent individual, see it as someone who IF they had camped in YOUR garden, pooed in it and were set to remain, the 999 call would be quickly dialled.
A female person I know was, in Alverstone approached by some ‘rough sleeper’ emerging from a tent in the woods, who asked the time, etc.
Very frightening to have these non mainstream odd balls, living in isolation, for it is NOT normal, and likelihood is, neither is their mind.
This needs to be dealt with in a sever manner, not pity, breaking the law, is only ‘part’ of the issue, the consequences of allowing such would be far, far greater, THINK if capable.
wonder what toilet facilities they have there ?
steven, well lets put it like this, avoid the area if looking for Mushrooms or truffles.
No Leanne we should not leave that individual alone – who ever it is, will be creating waste, will expect to use the services, such as NHS and local roads – why should we pay and that individual not pay their bit.
These areas are not for people to pitch up in and create some caravan site – we have specific places for them – use them or clear off. This sponger is trying to avoid paying.
I go up to walk the dogs in Firestone copse quite regularly and this person/persons has never caused me a problem, really don’t think it’s right to move them without finding them somewhere to move on to. Trying to find somewhere to live here is very difficult, especially if you have animal’s, and you can’t just move your caravan onto a caravan park and.live in it, you have to move out for a few days every few weeks, and, although not a problem at this time of year, they can get very noisy. Now I am not saying that everyone should be allowed to do this, although I am tempted, but we should look at individual circumstances before we have a “one size fits all” solution.
Just tow it away.
Exactly. Why waste time and money on courts?
This is the side of equality women don’t want. A man trying to get on the housing list is a joke. No chance. I totally understand you can’t have any tom dick or harry parking up a caravan and living out of it. But need to do something so that you don’t have to resort to this. I’m sure this person would prefer to be in an official location and left alone.
