The Cowes Floating Bridge will be out of action for a short period tomorrow (Thursday) and against on Friday to enable ‘essential tests’ to be undertaken.
The Isle of Wight Council says that the East Cowes to West Cowes service will be out of action between 17:00-19:30 on Thursday evening and again between 05:00-08:00 on Friday morning.
Tests are being undertaken while the river is subject to a spring ebb tide.
A passenger replacement launch service across the River Medina will be provided.
We never had any problems with any of th old floating bridge high or low tide it was always running now we have to much water for the new one !!!!!!
Let’s guess the outcome…. failure.
Why do people keep mentioning the old floating bridge?? It was way past it’s life span, rusting away, & did not conform with new regulations! If the council were forward thinking, & looked at up to date forms of travel, then they would have put a pedestrian tunnel there & a vehicle crossing further up the river!
A bridge across, is the only answer. For the miserable amount of boats that use this water, and then most for pleasure, the fuss for Island traffic management is more pressing.
Such a bridge lower down by stag lane would ease much of Newport’s traffic issues as much goes Cowes to Ryde, and even MORE so when Ryde becomes far more larger and ruined soon.
