FLOATING BRIDGE OUT OF ACTION ON TUESDAY – AGAIN!

The Cowes Floating Bridge will be out of action tomorrow morning (Tuesday) due to yet another issue with the troubled vessel.

Council officials say that ‘planned maintenance’ will be taking place on Floating Bridge No. 6’s west prow hinge. The work is being undertaken to ensure the vessel is fully operational for the busy Isle of Wight Festival period.

A temporary foot passenger launch service will be in operation from 05:00 tomorrow (11th June) and will remain in operation for as long as the works take place. An update will be provided by the Council when things are back to normal.

Frustrated Islanders have taken to Facebook to expressed their anger at the situation. Comments have included:

“Maybe focus on making it fully operational for the residents year round rather than trying to impress visitors”.

“This is not planned maintenance. You don’t plan to replace a hinge after two years! It is broken, whether physically or by the failure of design. This is unplanned corrective maintenance”.

UPDATE TUESDAY @ 18:40 – The Isle of Wight Council have confirmed that the floating bridge is now back in service.

That will be never then since the thing is completely unfit for purpose…
Sure a shame more tax payers money keeps being wasted on this and still the council have no guts to remove it before it floats off its chains.
Why can’t they just build a bridge from East to West linking Stag Lane to the old factories, charge a £1 toll which will pay for the bridge long term cost and maintenance.
