Firefighters don’t just put out blazes, as the retained crew of Freshwater Fire Station demonstrated today (Thursday) when they rescued 2 fledgling herring gulls from the roof of a property in the West Wight.
The RSPCA requested the assistance of the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service at around 14:00 this afternoon when it was discovered 2 baby gulls had become trapped by their feet in loose roof tiles.
Firefighters used a 13.5m ladder to gain height and a roof ladder to safely reach the trapped birds, who were then passed into the care of the Island’s RSPCA.
