Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club took 5 crews to Southampton for the final head race of the winter – a time trial event over 5km of the River Itchen – in which the men’s novice 4 secured their 1st win.
The crew of Carter Horrix, Paul Gamble, Louis Sheasby and Fred Giemza-Pipe put in an impressive performance – managing to pass all but the 1st crew to start in their category – to secure a superb victory by 30 seconds.
The ladies’ junior 4 finished a creditable 5th, whilst a changed line up in the the men’s junior 4s crew saw them produce a competitive row to finish inside the top 10.
The girls J14 quad of Annabelle Steward, Evie Crew, Layla Katirewa, Immy Burfitt and Esme Walters (cox) – rowing up a couple of age groups in the J16 event – showed excellent timing and technique, putting in another good performance in tough conditions for such a young crew to finish second behind Poole.
The club’s mixed masters crew of Stella Gamble, Andrew Tapsell, John Langborne and Gary Burch secured a podium place, with an excellent 3rd place finish.
Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club will be holding an open day on Saturday 1st April at the Boathouse on the Esplanade from 10:00. Further details may be found on the poster attatched.
