The New Carnival Company have been busy preparing for the first Newchurch Lantern Trail which will take place today (Thursday) starting at 18:30 from All Saints Church Hall, Newchurch.
This is the first of the Isle of Wight AONB ‘Down to the Coast’ projects which has just been awarded £1.5 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Young people and families have been learning about the nocturnal wildlife that live in the local woods and then creating both hand held lanterns and giant illuminated installations depicting them.
At 18:30 an estimated 200 people will set of for the ‘trail’ around Martins Wood (the bee fields) using their lanterns to light the way. Along the route they will come across a number of artist installations and soundscapes returning to Newchurch School where FONS (Friends of Newchurch School) will provide seasonal refreshments.
The walk will end at Newchurch Primary School for 19:30 where seasonal refreshements will be on sale. All are welcome.
