Multiple crews from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have responded to a potential incident at the Royal Mail depot in Newport this evening (Monday) – but it has been deemed a false alarm.
2 appliances, an aerial ladder platform and the Incident Command Unit were called to the scene off Riverway Industrial Estate at around 18:05.
Following an inspection of the large scale depot, all resources have stood down and returned to station.
It is unknown at this time what sparked the large scale response.
UPDATE @ 22:35 – It has been confirmed that a small electrical fire started within the factory, but was swiftly extinguished by mail staff using a fire extinguisher.
The fire was out upon arrival of fire crews but a thermal imaging camera was used to check the building.
