Experience 1970, the 50th-anniversary celebration of the legendary 1970 Isle of Wight Festival, is calling for festival-goers to match the vintage sounds on stage by turning up to this September’s 3-day event in period dress.
Dig out your flared jeans, bell-bottoms, desert boots, plimsolls, denim shirts, love beads and tie-dye tees and get ready to party. Experience 1970 takes place at the original 1970 festival site at East Afton Farm, near Freshwater, over the 4th-6th September weekend.
Main organiser Chris Hewitt said:
“We are doing our utmost with Experience 1970 to put on the best sights and sounds on stage to capture the essence of the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival. Now we are keen to urge everyone coming to the event to bring their best early-70s style clothes.
“Some older fans may have some original gear in their wardrobes…for younger fans, the challenge is on – there is plenty of great clothing available out there.
“We’d also like to hear from traders who sell period clothing from this fantastic era and traders who specialise in vinyl records to get in touch for potential spots on our festival site to add to the authenticity of the Experience 1970 celebration.”
Experience 1970 is honouring the ‘Last Great Event’ when music and style icons such as Jimi Hendrix and The Doors’ Jim Morrison were among the star attractions. So inspiration should not be a problem.
Chris is also keen to help dress the 1970 festival site at East Afton, near Freshwater, with a collection of period vehicles to further conjure up the feel of the original event.
“We would like to call for owners of classic cars who are coming to the event to bring their motors with them – we particularly want to see pre-1972 classics to get the feel just right. Anyone bringing a pre-1972 car will get free parking and a £10 discount on our weekend ticket price.
“We will not restrict this to cars. Anyone with a great VW or Bedford campervan, for example, or a Mk 1 Transit, that kind of thing, will be just as welcome”.
Experience 1970 tickets are now available to reserve/order. For details, email [email protected] or phone 07970 219701 / 07966 532556.
