This years Needles XC Half Marathon on Sunday 8th June is set to be one the whole family can enjoy with the introduction of a new junior fun run.
Organised by the West Wight Sports Centre and Love Running, the new 1.5k course around Jubilee and Stroud Fields, is open to youngsters aged 4 to 11. It’s a free event thanks to sponsorship from Crossprint and everyone who takes part will receive a medal and certificate.
It’s the second year the centre have taken on the running of the half marathon.
Clare Griffin, centre manager said:
“It’s already a very popular event but we wanted to add something this year to encourage even the youngest of runners”.
Clare will be competing in the main event this year as part of her ‘Flipping Fit for 50’ challenge to raise money for the centre .
For those who fancy something a little less strenuous on a Sunday morning, a craft market will be running throughout the day in the sports hall. There will also be a book signing event by Islander Dave Berridge who has published a book detailing his exploits as an extreme runner, adventurer and ultra-distance athlete.
Registration for the Fun Run is on the day and opens at 9am. A FYT bus shuttle service will be running between West Wight Sports Centre and Yarmouth car park throughout the day.
