One of the main roads in and out of Ryde has been closed this afternoon (Monday) to allow Southern Water to carry out emergency repair works.
Ashey Road, from Smallbrook Roundabout to the junction with Bettesworth Road, has been closed to all traffic in both directions.
Contractors are working between Trotters Riding School and Rosemary Cottages.
Motorists are being diverted via Carters Road and Upton Road. Reasonable facilities will be provided to allow access to adjacent premises while the road is closed.

It is not a long time since Southern Water replaced the entire pipeline from the Ashey Downs reservoir to the town centre. So recent, in fact, that the scars they left in the road are still showing, but yet again their work is failing and causing disruption.
As they keep building more and more houses in Ryde, the drain on the water main is massive. So they have to up the pressure to cope, then the subsidiary water mains burst. Don’t fret our water bills will rise to pay for it all.
How many more times !!!!!. No wonder the roads are so disgusting. Months and months of closures. Almost as bad as Island roads. If they had to get paid by result they would get their fingers out and fix things properly.
