Portchester defender Elliot Wheeler has joined East Cowes Vics as Assistant Manager, the Wessex League Division 1 club has announced.
The 29-year-old right back – who was born on the Isle of Wight – started his career at Pompey’s academy before moving on to Stoke City. His other former clubs include Nuneaton Town, Gosport Borough and Salisbury.
East Cowes Vics manager Alex Smith has said:
“I’m delighted Elliot has agreed to take on such an important role at the club. His experience and knowledge gained from playing at a number of fantastic clubs, under various brilliant coaches, will be a huge support to me this season.”
When asked whether Elliot would appear in an East Cowes Vics shirt in the forthcoming 2023/24 Wessex League Division 1 season, Alex said:
“He’s just had surgery on his Achilles. So no playing for him for a while.”
Last season, Elliot made 27 appearances for Portchester, finishing on the winning side 22 times. Portchester finished 4th in the Wessex Premier – just missing out on promotion – having topped the league for most of the campaign.
