Island-born Jazz vocalist, Edana Minghella, comes home to launch her stunning second album, ‘All or Nothing’ at the Anthony Minghella Theatre, Quay Arts, on 28th May.
The new album pays homage to the queen of jazz, Billie Holiday. Based on her sell-out show of song and story, Edana celebrates Lady Day’s unique and emotional take on the Great American Songbook with 11 tunes ranging from blues to ballads. Including the sassy, uptempo title track ‘All or Nothing at All’, a beautifully simple version of ‘The Nearness of You’ and other much loved standards, Edana gives Billie’s repertoire a new lease of life with her sensitive, intensely moving vocal style.
‘All or Nothing’ features stellar musicians, including Minghella regulars Pete Maxfield on double bass, Lee Goodall (ex-Van Morrison) on alto sax and Mark Edwards and Janette Mason on piano. The album was recorded at Quietmoney Studios and produced by Grammy-award-winning James McMillan (who also plays trumpet and flugelhorn) and award-winning vocalist Liane Carroll.
Edana said:
“Billie Holiday has been a significant influence on my musical development since I was a teenager. Working on this new album and performing Billie’s music with such wonderful musicians has been a privilege and a joy. I simply can’t wait to share it.”
Edana launches the new album in May at Pizza Express Soho on 15th May (already sold out) followed by her home city of Brighton, and her birthplace, the Isle of Wight.
