A 30-year-old man from Dorset has been released under investigation following a Police manhunt across the Isle of Wight on Saturday which came after a series of linked incidents.
As first reported by Island Echo, officers arrested the male following a string of offences committed in several Island towns including aggravated vehicle theft and burglaries.
The suspect is also said to have stolen a boat from the Keyhaven area and attempted to cross the Solent, before stealing a Ford Transit van in Yarmouth and crashing into 2 cars on Broad Lane.
Further incidents were then reported in Shalfleet and Calbourne, followed by the theft of a vehicle from a driveway in Gurnard on Saturday evening. The suspect was finally apprehended in Place Road, Cowes shortly after.
The mainlander, from Wimbourne, was arrested on suspicion of 1 count of burglary and theft, 1 count of aggravated vehicle taking and vehicle damage, and 1 count of criminal damage.
Hampshire Constabulary has today said that the suspect has been released from custody but remains under investigation, including for several other offences, whilst enquiries continue.
This is just great, so he will be on his way to France by now.

I am trying to get my head around this. He was trying to leave the country, allegedly carried out various crimes and has been released under investigation. I am guessing he was trying to leave as he may be a target for some dodgy people. My suggestion would be to introduce an act of law in cases such as this to put a tag on the suspect.
