The Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary’s popular resident donkey, Poppy, has sadly died.
Last Monday, Poppy was rushed to Liphook Equine Hospital near Petersfield where she was diagnosed with having an internal bleed. The hospital’s vets gave her the best treatment and she pulled through, returning home to Wroxall just 2 days ago.
Sadly, overnight Poppy’s condition deteriorated badly once again. It became clear to the vets this morning (Wednesday) that the internal bleed had re-occurred and her condition was more serious than before.
Following consultation with the Liphook Equine Hospital team, it was agreed that nothing more could be done to save Poppy and she was put to sleep earlier today.
In a statement issued this afternoon, the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary have said:
“Words cannot describe our emotions and our feelings. The entire team have tried absolutely everything to save Poppy and we are completely devastated at today’s turn of events.
“We would like thank everyone who has sent in well-wishes, thoughts and love for Poppy over the last week”.
