In view of the severity of the weather forecast for Sunday, the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary has taken the decision to close to the public all day.
An amber weather warning is in force for the Isle of Wight, which will bring disruption and destruction to our shores.
Staff at the sanctuary say they do not feel it is safe to open in such adverse conditions as the entrance to indoor facilities is via an exhibition marquee with metal doors.
In addition, by keeping the sanctuary closed for the day, staff and volunteers can focus purely on the care and welfare of our animals without having to worry about the safety of the public.
A spokesperson for the Wroxall-based charity has said:
“We do not like making decisions such as this because we need every donation from people who visit us at this time of year . However we are making this judgement in the interests of animal and public safety in the light of the weather information which is available to us .
“We hope that by making this decision as early as we can people can be well informed and make any alternative arrangements that might be necessary”.
Lets hope these Donkey are safe, they have suffered enough in their lives.

Good decision. Those poor donkeys won’t want to be out in this so their safety is more important. The last thing we need is them being in this horrible storm, they need to be safe and dry
