The Isle of Wight Council has agreed to extend the period of time that dog walkers can use beaches to exercise with their dogs beyond 1st May, which is when the normal restriction comes into force.
This decision will help people to follow government guidelines for social distancing when exercising by keeping the beach available for this purpose and reducing the need for people to converge on alternative areas.
People are reminded to only ever walk to the beach for this purpose, in line with national guidance, which states that people should stay local, use open spaces near to their home, and not travel unnecessarily.
If people can access beaches on foot from their homes then they should ensure they are practising social distancing measures (keeping 2 metres apart from others outside their household). Unless people are with members of the same household, gatherings of more than 2 people in public spaces should not take place.
People should not sunbathe, picnic or otherwise use the beach for anything other than daily exercise for themselves or their dog.
The public are reminded that you should only leave the house for very limited purposes and practice social distancing when doing these activities, everyone should be minimising time spent outside of the home and ensure they are 2 metres apart from anyone outside of their household.

I would like to know why these people with very loud exhaust motorbikes are allowed to race around Ryde , especially the ‘ rat runs’ ? Can hear them coming and going for seems like miles..Why are these people out? Also there are a few cars sounding rubbish hammering up the roads… just because its lockdo0wn, does not mean no speed limits !!
I was delivering some shopping in Binstead, and a car was coming towards Ryde down Binstead Hill, passed me doing probably 60 MPH or more ? Why are some people so stupid ?
Just because there is no traffic, does not mean no speed limits.
I whole heartedly agree with you we get them in Wroxall, Whitwell, & Niton they completely ignore speed limits and the exhaust noise is also illegal, but no action is taken against them WHY?
Perhaps they are so fast that the police would not be able to catch them even if they were ever around. In Elmfield Ryde always some idiot roaring on such. Boys toys I guess.
What has this got to do with dog shit on the beaches?
Has the lockdown finished? Seems like it due to the amount of road users …
But ‘normal restrictions’ are that people walk their dogs on the beach whenever they want to all year round anyway regardless of what notices there are.
Dogs on beaches rules are no more enforced than those telling responsible dog owners to clean up after their pooches poopies.
Another exercise in wasting time by someone completely out of touch with what actually goes on.
There should always be set areas of the beach for dog owners. Just as well ban kids from the beach as well.
An excellent decision in my opinion.
Is that dogs or kids! Ha! Kids are certainly noisier on the beach!
Worryingly dogs seem to be able to catch and thus presumably spread CV according to some reports. So maybe leads to stop them sniffing other dogs and then transferring the virus to owner would be a wise move?
Seems over the top, but then all these radical measures did when only days ago.
Does not the law require dogs to be on a lead in public places anyway
On roads yes beaches etc no
Dogs cannot catch the virus but if someone who is infected should sneeze on their fur it could be passed to anyone who then strokes the dog.
I think if you check, cats and dogs can carry and spread the virus. Whether from cough infected fur or infection, owners should start controlling their animals. When the link becomes better known, a lot of folk could get very upset.
Dogs can lick children’s faces being ‘on their level’ and spread this virus to them. A lead is a must now, and the bagged poo, should be double bagged before the careless discard it into the nearest bush for the council worker or gardener to split open after fermentation.

The walking poo things should be kept on a lead peeing and pooping every where
Do you pee and poop? I’ve not yet heard of a toilet trained dog! Don’t be so ignorant dogs mean a hell of a lot to many people and most owners are responsible and those that aren’t don’t deserve them in the first place.
You are just a sad person if you think that’s all dogs do they are intelligent faithful and loving they are a lifeline to disabled and blind people the list is endless and if dog poo and wee is all you see then I pity you
Well said Linda what a sad person he is
