The Restaurant at the Seaview Hotel has retained a Michelin Bib Gourmand award for the second year – the only eating venue on the Isle of Wight in receipt of such an award.
The latest edition of the Michelin Guide was unveiled at the first ever live launch held at the Institution of Engineering and Technology, London. A host of culinary greats attended including chef royalty Éric Fréchon and Michel Roux Snr. Among the winners was The Restaurant at the Seaview Hotel which was awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand for the second year.
The Bib Gourmand is a relatively new award and this edition of the Michelin Guide marks it’s 20th anniversary. In essence it is an award for exceptional cooking at a reasonable price, with the bulk of the menu coming in at 3 courses for £28. Bib Gourmands are not readily dished out and in fact only 143 establishments were given the award this year compared to 147 restaurants receiving a Michelin Star, which is usually associated with higher prices and far more formal service.
Head Chef Bruce Theobald (pictured left) has said:
“It can be a challenge getting the menu to average out at £28 but it has always been my philosophy that dining out should be accessible and not cost a fortune.
“Getting the Bib Gourmand for the second year is just fantastic and is a great acknowledgement of all the hard work and skill of my team. And I would also like to say a massive thank you to all our customers!”
Tracy Mikich, Marketing Director at the hotel has said:
“I am delighted for Bruce. Over the last 2 years he has transformed the restaurant offering at The Seaview Hotel. It hasn’t always been plain sailing so to say I am proud is an understatement”.
The Michelin Guide is independent and regarded as an authority on eating out. The Bib Gourmand is named after the Michelin Bibendum character, better known as the Michelin Man.
