Crossing the Bar is a 3-day varied programme of walks with creative animations, highlighting the Tennyson Heritage Coast supported by the IW Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Arts Council England and managed by New Carnival based in Ryde.
The walking weekend represents the culmination of a 6-week community education and learning project, involving heritage and nature experts, schoolchildren and young people, adult volunteers and local artists.
The project is celebrating “2023 – Year of the Coast” and is promoting our National Trail, The England Coast Path (soon to known as The King Charles III Path), due to be completed by late 2024. The Isle of Wight is proud to be a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
You can walk with us along any section of the Heritage Coast, mix and match your programme, or do the whole walk of about 27 miles. All walks are free to join! The linear walks must be pre-booked (restricted numbers) and it may be possible to arrange lifts back to the start point, by prior arrangement.
