The election of the Police and Crime Commissioner for the Hampshire Police area, which includes the Isle of Wight, has been cancelled and will now take place next year, it has been confirmed.
Islanders were going to be asked to go the polls to select their new Commissioner, however, the election will now take place on Thursday 6th May 2021 – to be held on the same day as the local elections already planned for that year.
By-elections were also due to be held on 2nd April to fill a vacancy on Shanklin Town Council and on 16th April to fill 2 vacancies on Ryde Town Council.
Following receipt of advice from the Cabinet Office regarding by-elections scheduled to take place on dates other than 7th May, these have now been cancelled.
Information on whether the existing vacancies will be filled will be provided to the Clerks of the Town Councils concerned as soon as it is available.

What a shame. I couldn’t wait to get rid of that sanctimonious Police Commissioner who doesn’t recognise our Isle of Wight. He thinks we are Hampshire. When I pointed out to him that we were a separate County, he said “ I decide if you are or not”, what a NH.
