As part of the England & Wales Cricket Board’s Club Open Day initiative, Ventnor Cricket Club invite members and the local community to an Open Day at Steephill this coming Sunday (30th August).
At 13:30, a current Ventnor side will take on a team of older and former players, including Chris Sketchley, Mark Garaway and Ben Davies. Matt Compton will skipper the ‘old boys’ side.
The match will also serve as a fitting memorial to Brian Gardener, the club’s much loved President and founder of Newclose. Before the game, at 13:00, Martin Gardener will dedicate the club’s scoreboard to the memory of his father.
The day, which begins at 10:00 with an under-11s game, will feature a demonstration of vintage motor cycles and live music in the evening.
The ECB initiative, which is sponsored by Waitrose, is designed to encourage clubs to engage with their local community and is now in its third year.
The Club’s licenced bar and food will be available throughout the day.
A warm welcome is extended to everyone at Steephill Road, Ventnor, PO38 1UF (next to the Botanical Gardens).
