The Isle of Wight Council has written to the lease holders of Ryde Arena stating they are concerned about the closure of the community facility. It comes ahead of an event which will see locals come together to show their support for the ice rink.
At 16:30 tomorrow (Wednesday) a ‘Link around the Rink’ gathering is being held at the Ryde attraction, in which supporters of Ryde Arena will complete a hand link around the building to show their support and highlight the importance of the ice rink.
An Isle of Wight Council spokesperson has today said:
“The Isle of Wight Council is very concerned about the closure of this much loved community facility and although not directly involved in the dispute between the lessee and Ryde Arena Trust, as the freeholder the council has written to the lessee to seek clarification on their future intentions for the building and to ensure it meets the terms of the lease.”
As previously reported by Island Echo, bailiffs took back Ryde Arena on Thursday morning.
