The Isle of Wight Council is set to shell out an additional £86,250 on employing the services of Jay Jayasundara of Jasmine Consulting as part of the PFI savings programme.
Jasmine Consulting (UK) Ltd was brought in to help find savings in the PFI contract between the Isle of Wight Council and Island Roads in 2018 – a contract originally set up with help from Jay Jayasundara himself just 5 years earlier.
Between January and December 2018, the local authority paid out in excess of £128,000 to Jasmine Consulting. It is currently unknown how much was paid in 2019. However, the overall figure is set to skyrocket to at least £215,000 following confirmation of an extended contract.
A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Council has said:
“The contract has been extended by a value of £86,250 to complete phase two of the PFI savings programme. The contract will cease when either the financial cap has been reached or when the savings programme has been delivered.
“The contract is helping to deliver £70 million in savings over the lifetime of the contract”.
Meanwhile, a new Strategic Manager for Highways and Transport has been appointed as a salaried member of staff. Island Echo is told that John David is managing the service until a permanent replacement can be recruited.

Just ask the island residents where to save money, the first place they’ll tell you is get rid of the consultants, after all it is our money so we should get a say. Hiring consultants obviously means the mafia/council don’t know what they’re doing
What a wonderful council we have, not. Lovely to know that a lot of our money is going to this company again. What a mess. Didn’t take long for central government money to get given out to another useless attempt at something that isn’t even that clear.

I can tell them how to save money on this road scheme, do a road from one end to the other rather than just short streches of it. Take the Undercliff Road between Ventnor and St. Lawrence for example Church Street to The Eversley Hotel has not been resurfaced, the Eversley Hotel to the main entrance to the Botanical Gardens has been done, the strech from there to the other end of the garden has not been resurfaced and the strech from the old Hospital nursing home to St lawrence and most of St Lawrence apart from the road from the Carfax to the entrance to Old Park has been done and the parts that have been done have not been done one after the other. To do this Island Roads have brought all their equipment over at least 4 times. What a complete waste of money.

you couldn’t make it up ,hire the person who was responsible for the contract to sort out his own mistakes and pay him for it. talk about taking the p!!! I only hope people will use their vote at the next local elections and get rid of this useless bunch of useless wasters .

I hate our council.
Enough is enough. Time the Council was suspended and a full public, or even judicial, enquiry into what is going on and how our money is being squandered by the load of incompetents in County Hall. On you way, now, the lot of you.
How can you employ a tosser who was a part of the original company that cocked up the contract to start with.
Probably dodgy back handers which i am sure many of our crap councilors are acquainted with.
Just remember when the elections are due what an absolute crappy council we have.
Is this the person that works, or did work, with in the council and keeps getting consulting jobs referred to their own consulting company. Wasn’t the pfi a central government hand out to completely overhaul the islands road network, if so, how can the island council remove money from it for other projects and then bring in some one at vast expense to look for savings, which in turn will mean Island roads having to skimp even more and use more sub standard materials and not do a ‘proper job’, as is becoming evident on several newly laid crumbling roads that haven’t been down for 5 years yet, so much for lasting a minimum of 10-15 years before any repairs would be needed.
I’m sorry, but how the hell can the IWC merit this, it’s a load of codswallop, particularly today when people are suffering financially and mentally, including a PFI workforce, be it Island Roads OR Amey !!
