The Isle of Wight Council’s Trading Standards team are warning residents to beware of a new scam.
The scam sees text messages sent to individuals advising that they are due a council tax rebate. There is then a request for bank details to be given to enable the refund to be issued.
Council officials say this is a scam – the Isle of Wight Council and any other legitimate organisation would never contact you in this way.
Isle of Wight residents who receive this text are being urged not to respond – ignore or delete such messages.
Never respond to unsolicited texts, emails or letters – they are likely to be scams. If in doubt contact the organisation using details that you have found independently.
