The Isle of Wight Council has been selected as a shortlisted finalist in the environmental services category in the 2018 LGC Awards.
The awards, run by Local Government Chronicle, are the biggest and most prestigious awards ceremony for the local government sector.
The award entry focuses of the work of the council and its partners in delivering travel behaviour change programmes to residents accessing education and employment, and visitors.
Nearly 100 organisations have been shortlisted as finalists in the coveted awards, which recognise the best of local government innovation and service delivery. The awards seek to identify and recognise local government’s greatest innovators, whose achievements are often under reported.
With budgets at the forefront of priorities, this year’s awards shine a spotlight on the achievements of those councils whose pioneering best practice can inspire other councils to improve services.
Councillor Ian Ward, Cabinet member for infrastructure and transport has said:
“To be shortlisted for an LGC Award for our pioneering sustainable transport projects is an honour in itself and is testament to the hard work and determination of our officers and our partnership organisations. Independent evaluation of our sustainable transport programmes confirms that people are being inspired to walk and cycle more, which supports health and wellbeing and quality of life outcomes”.
Winners will be announced on 21st March 2018 at Grosvenor House on London’s Park Lane which will be attended by 1,100 people from local government and its partner organisations.
