Households across the Isle of Wight will have to pay for their Christmas Tree to be taken away this year – or face lugging it to 1 of 2 household waste and recycling centres (HWRC) on the Island.
In the past the Council has offered a free kerbside collection of real Christmas Trees throughout January and into early February. However, it has been revealed that a charge of £5 is to be introduced this year.
Around 1,400 properties have taken up the free collection service in the past which could mean a £7,000 boost to the Council’s purse this Christmas.
Those who refuse to pay the small charge will have to take their trees to either Lynnbottom HWRC or Afton HWRC, but with reduced winter opening hours that in itself could prove a challenge during the busy festive period.
The Council is offering free Christmas Tree collection for those who sign up to a new garden waste collection service at a cost of £52 per year, rising to £60 after 28th January.
