From their 19th Century roots in the South Wales Valleys, The Cory Band has travelled from Treorchy all over the world but this week they will be heading to the Isle of Wight.
In 2016 the band became the first in history to win all 3 major titles of British, National, European and Brass in Concert Champions – the ultimate banding Grand Slam.
The world’s best band also features a local resident of the Isle of Wight, Bb Bass player Rob Nicholson. Rob, who began his playing career on the Isle of Wight, left to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff and whilst studying in Cardiff was offered his position as a full time member of Cory.
Rob is excited about the forthcoming opportunity to return to the Isle of Wight:

One of the bands most significant achievements to date is that of becoming the first brass band in history to have won the Grand Slam. Along with this, the band has retained the title of the number one ranked brass band in the world for the tenth consecutive year – an unprecedented success.
“On a personal level though I’m really proud that I can return home to perform with this band for the third time and share my musical journey with local friends and family who have supported me from day one.”
Islanders will have the opportunity to watch The Cory Band live and in sparkling form, fresh from their summer break and just 2 weeks before they defend their British Open title at Symphony Hall, Birmingham.
