CONSTRUCTION OF SANDOWN’S BRAND NEW PREMIER INN PROGRESSES

Construction of the Isle of Wight’s latest Premier Inn hotel is progressing well, with a fixed crane set to be installed on the Sandown Esplanade site from today (Monday).

The foundations of the 100-bed building have been set and the ground floor of the new hotel and restaurant is two-thirds complete. Once the final third of the concrete slab has been poured then the steel frame of the building will be erected.

Parking bays on the Esplanade have been suspended this week to allow for the large crane to be brought in.

The current construction programme – which is always subject to review – targets completion of the new hotel and restaurant by Spring 2020. It was 3-and-a-half years ago that Island Echo exclusively revealed plans for the opening of Sandown’s first chain hotel.

Geoff Cook, Senior Project and Programme Manager, has said:

“We are making good progress with the construction of Premier Inn Sandown.  The ground floor slab of the hotel building is nearing completion and a fixed crane is being installed on the site from Monday 8th July.

“Installing the crane safely is our top priority. To enable safe access to the site, we need to suspend the use of nearby public parking bays for a few days in the week commencing 8th July. This temporary measure has been agreed with Island Roads and public notices are in place on parking ticket machines along the Esplanade.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and we will do all we can to minimise disturbance during the installation of the fixed crane.”

It was mainly a coaching hotel with a minority private’s with cars. You obviously don’t live near the seafront.

Could that be a reason why the hotel folded up
