The Conservative’s Stephen Hendry secured the Whippingham and Osborne Ward in yesterday’s county council by-election.
A total of 906 votes were cast by those living in the East Cowes ward, representing a 25.26% turnout.
It was a fairly close battle between 3 of the candidates with Julie Ann Burridge (Lib Dem) securing 179 votes, Michael Paler (Ind) 167 votes and Luisa Hillard (Lab) 141 votes. Stephen Hendry won by a considerable margin with 318 votes.
The by-election was brought about due to the resignation of Julia Baker-Smith, who has since moved to Manchester.
