COASTGUARD ISSUE REMINDER FOLLOWING RECENT CLIFF FALL AT YAVERLAND


HM Coastguard are reminding Islanders about the dangers that are posed by the cliffs around our coast following a cliff fall at Yaverland earlier this week.

Several hundred tonnes of rock crashed down onto the beach at the area known as Redcliff sometime between Sunday and Monday. Furthermore, a larger fall has occurred towards the end of Culver Cliff.

Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team have been out to inspect the area and to ascertain the extent of the recent fall.

Coastguard Officers have taken to Facebook to urge Isle of Wight beach goers to stay well away from the base of cliffs.

On Wednesday a 9-year-old girl was killed by a rockfall in North Yorkshire.

It was in May 2016 that a large fall at Redcliff prompted a major emergency response amid fears persons had become trapped under the rocks.
