Isle of Wight trials rider Chris Stay once again proved that he is one of the country’s most improved riders with a brilliant win at the national Colmore cup trial held near Stratford-upon-Avon last weekend.

The trial was the third round of the national S3 championships and following on from his 4th place in both the first 2 rounds in Didcot and the Lake District, the BVM TRS UK-supported rider has now moved up to second place in the championship. Chris now sits just 3 points behind series leader Dan Thorpe from Yorkshire.

After a nervous first half of the day Chris had gained 4 penalty points, but as the weather deteriorated and the course became harder he went into overdrive and never lost a single point through the remaining 18 sections of the course. He ended the day with a brilliant clear ride on the final section, which most other riders had failed to get through.

This was his most impressive victory to date, beating over 110 of the country’s best riders. This has given him a great confidence boost for the British championships which start on 23rd March near Guilford.

Travelling companion and best mate Josh Stephens was unlucky to finish the trial just outside of the points haul, but at least he managed to finish this time unlike the previous weekend when he was forced to retire after hurting his leg in the Lake District.
