136 Athletes took on the challenge of the Brading 10k Race last Sunday (2nd June) with Ryde Harrier, Chris Newnham, the first home in a time of 32:36. The route follows a course from Smallbrook stadium through Ashey to Brading then back along the main road to Ryde turning down Pennyfeathers to finish back on the track at Smallbrook. The good conditions promised good times and we were not disappointed. In 2nd place was Isle of Wight Road Runner, Josh Price, in 33:42. 3rd and 1st Vet 40 was Ryde Harriers Gary Marshall, in a time of 34:30. 5tth place and completing the winning team for Ryde was Dan Furmidge, who also took the prize for 1st vet 50. Dan had the excellent time of 35:30. Hot on Dans heals was fellow vet 50, Stuart Macdonald, who finished 9th, in 36:48. 1st vet 60 was Steve Hargrave, with the prize for Vet 70 going to Pete Young.
In the Women’s event first home was Carly Scoble, running for Ryde Harriers in a time of 40:26. Carly also took the prize for first vet 35. 2nd was Hannah Pain CDF in 45:19. 3rd went to Millie Williams in 46:31. First Vet 45 went to Robeena Shepherd in 50:37. The first women’s team home was Ryde Harriers, Carly Scoble, Gemma Maddocks and Donna Drobina.
The route follows a course from Smallbrook stadium through Ashey to Brading then back along the main road to Ryde turning down Pennyfeathers to finish back on the track at Smallbrook. Ryde Harriers’ decision to change the start time of the race continues to be popular. The 18:00 start means quieter roads and cooler temperatures. The next race on the Ryde Harriers Calendar is the Isle of Wight Half Marathon.
